Birch Box ~ September

  • Posted on September 23, 2012 at 11:19 PM

This month’s Birch Box is my second one.  Here is what I got.

boscia soothing cleansing cream.

Benefit Cosmetics The POREfessional. This will be my first time using Benefit so I’m kind of excited. I also have JUMBO pores. 🙁

Color Club Birchbox Custom Polish. It’s hard to see it, but it’s blah. It is this dark steel-grey blue creme color.  It’s not ugly but  it’s not edgy enough to be pretty.  I’m thinking this will be a toes only polish.

Kate Spade New York “Twirl” perfume. I really like it. It’s fresh and clean smelling, not overly flowery.

“twishband” pink (ick) Hair Tie. I have too much hair to even consider trying it. It would surely break!

The “tili” Bags is an extra. I don’t care what it’s called or that it has designs, IT’S. A. BAGGIE. ’nuff said.

So there you go, Birch Box for September.  Not too wowed, but not going to jump right in and try everything right away. If the meh factor continues I will cancel, but for now I’ll keep getting them. OH I almost forgot… The list card gave an address for musician Tristan Prettyman downloads. Free music! I am an MP3 junky! If I don’t like it, at least I didn’t pay for it.

Bulu Box ~ September

  • Posted on September 23, 2012 at 10:45 PM

I got my boxes last week, but didn’t have a computer to post. This month I’m not too impressed with my box, but I’m still happy with Bulu. Here is what I got. BTW sorry for the crappy picture. I used my Instagram with the assistance of 3 cats. They kept bumping me causing the picture to come out shaky. I finally gave up and settled for this one.

The bottle is Athlete Octane Liquid Endurance Shot ~ Astronaut Orange. I don’t like orange flavor so I’ll pass this on to someone else.

Rev Honey (the tube) honey snack for energy. Peach flavor. For not being  big peach fan (yes, I’m picky) it tasted really good. I think it’s too sweet to suck down all at once, but I’m willing to take it to work and see if it gives me enough energy for my 12 hour shift. (It didn’t)

A full bottle (60) Swanson Razberri-K. Since raspberry Ketones are the newest “thing” I’m not surprised to get this. You’re supposed to take two a day with water to curb hunger. I’m on the fence about trying it. I’m going to have to research more.

Eight Ball Neuro Edge. “Gently” mix with water. Hummm ok. Another energy sample. They read my mind. I can ALWAYS use energy boosts.

Hawaiian Coconut Energy ~ wooo more energy samples. I LOVE coconut anything. I’m nervous about trying it though. The first box I got had Green Tea and it make my throat swell. Not shut, but it was still uncomfortable.

So there you go. My Bulu Box for September.

Influenster ~ Latina Vox Box

  • Posted on August 22, 2012 at 8:32 PM

Almost 2 months ago I signed up with a program called Influenster. From their website:

Apply to our trendsetter community and use your influence to qualify for complimentary PRODUCT SHIPMENTS, REWARDS & DEALS fit for your lifestyle. The more active you are, the more perks you get!

I love snail mail boxes, and I am always doing a survey for someone, so I figured why not. I imagined it would be months until I was chosen for a “VoxBox”, but I wasn’t brooding about it. Most programs ask for 100% participation on several occasions before you are up for perks. To my surprise I was chosen a few weeks ago for a Latina VoxBox. It arrived a few days ago. 🙂

I considered doing a video of my box, but I chickened out. I also just returned from a 2week vacation and I’m beat. So for now I’m just going to show you what goodies I got and in a week or so I’ll review the products either in this same format or *gulp* a video.

My Latina Beauty VoxBox contains the following:

VEET Ready to Use Wax Strips, Leg & Body $9.99 (Scared to death to try this, but I’ll be a trooper!)

NYC New York Color Liquid Lipshine. $ 2.49

NEW Bath and Body Works Shea-Enriched Signature Collection Shower Gel. $5

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen. $7.99

Always Radiant Infinity Pads. $6.99 (Already use them and love them!)

Always Tampax Radiant Collection sampler (tampons, pads, liners in a cute wristlet)

Sooo roughly $32.46 worth of products.

I’ll update this post when I try EVERYTHING out. 🙂 BTW Disclosure: The product(s) featured in this post were provided for editorial consideration. Receipt of this product did not guarantee review and all opinions are my own.

Vplenish ~  It’s a taste free vitamin boost that you can mix into anything. Does not contain calories, gluten, caffeine, artificial colors/flavors or preservatives. You can get 2,000 of these packets for $12.18 on Amazon. Making these samples worth less than a penny each.

Click Espresso Protein Drink ~ A kick of espresso that meets the sustained energy of protein. It contains 2 shots of espresso, 15 grams of protein and 23 vitamins and minerals with only 120 calories. This sample is worth $1.93 (Came with $5 and free shipping off your first order)

BONUS Shower Pill ~ Athletic Body Wipe. It’s the perfect body wipe for that midday workout when you just don’t have time to take a shower and freshen up after. The cloth is 9″x 8″ and seems to be really thick. You can get a 10-pack for $12.50 making this sample worth $1.25

Probulin. ~ 5 day supply! This product is meant to replenish the good bacteria in your digestive system with seven strains of live microorganism probiotics.   This sample is worth $8.33 (This also came with a web address to get a free copy of Probiotics for Dummies AND 20% your order.)

Immuno-Viva Defend + Energy ~  This is meant as a boost of energy as well as support for your immune system. After totaling values it appears this box is worth $18.85. Almost double the subscription cost! This box came with one final offer. 🙂 I got a scan tag to send a FREE box to a friend.

GlossyBox July 2012

  • Posted on August 4, 2012 at 2:53 AM

I’m just a little confused… I got my first GlossyBox TODAY 8/3/12, but it’s for “July”. I’m wondering if I’ll get August in September? As long as I get a box a month I wont complain. If the rest of the boxes are like this one I’ll be overjoyed!

This sounds silly, but I felt special opening this box. It’s very luxe and gave me the feeling of opening an expensive gift. To further my excitement I found the contents wrapped inside dark brown tissue held together with a sticker and a pink ribbon tied around it. Right under the ribbon was a glossy card with a list and explanation of the contents. This GlossyBox has a theme “Summer Nights”.  I was too excited to read the rest. I tossed it aside and dug into my box!

Here is what I found. Oops! I forgot to add that on top of the box was a copy of Glossy Mag. I’ll read it later. 🙂

Pedix Heel Rescue Balm by Alessandro International ~ (Imported from Germany) Even at 1.01 oz the tube is pretty good sized for being a sample. I tried a little on my hand and though it felt soft the smell was horrible. It reminded me of Kaopectate. I’m not big on pepperminty smells. A full size bottle sells for $18.50

OFRA Cosmetics Universal Eyebrow pencil ~ I don’t use brow pencils, but I might give this one a try. Full size (this one is) sells for $10

Almond & Aloe Hand & Body Emulsion by Caswell-Massey ~ I don’t want to tear this open yet, but I’m dying to. I LOVE almond scented anything! This is a tad bit premature, but if it’s anything like other almond creams I’ve tried, I wont hesitate to buy it. The full-sized price of $24 doesn’t scare me. LOL Oh and the fact that it’s paraben-free and not tested on animals… Yup, I’ll probably buy it.

Sebastian Color Ignite Multi Tone Shampoo & Conditioner ~ Full shampoo is $14.95 and the conditioner is $16.95. Doesn’t smell too bad. I’ll have to see how well it works though. One thing that has me super curious to try it is, the conditioner looks like it has a foam applicator.

Senna Cosmetics Double Dose Lip Lacquer ~ Chocolate Cherry ~ YUM Will try this before work tomorrow. I’m glad it’s full-sized, the color is something I’d wear. We’ll see how well it looks on me though. Sells for $22.00

Loving my box and I feel it’s worth the $21. Can’t wait to see what August brings!

July Bulu Box Review

  • Posted on August 1, 2012 at 11:00 PM

I got my first Bulu Box* a few days ago. I would have posted sooner but I’m too preoccupied packing for our trip. 🙂 So before I get my August box I thought I better share July’s box. I have tried only one of these products, the Coromega, as for the rest, I’ll update when I do.

The Cost: $10 a month (Use coupon code woohoo10 for your first month FREE!) The Products: Samples including vitamins, supplements, sports nutrition, meal replacement, diet, energy, protein, detox, digestion, sexual health, herbs, natural remedies, endurance and more.

July Bulu Box

Ola Loa Energy Multivitamin drink mix.

(2 packets: Tropical and Cran-Raspberry) – Value $1.50 Total

From Bulu Box: “With refreshing effervescent delivery, your body will absorb 98% of the nutrients in Ola Loa. Stir into water or juice!”

Coromega Omega3+D Squeeze ~ Value $1 Total

From Bulu Box: “Omega-3 and Vitamin D help ensure the health of your heart. Eat one yummy packet alone or squeeze it onto your favorite snack.” Adios fishy burps.

I’ve actually tried these and I don’t mind the taste at all. It reminds me of an orange dreamcicle ice cream. They are convenient to tote around too. It’s also true about the fishy burps. NONE 🙂

Detour Lower Sugar Whey Protein Bar (Caramel Peanut) – Value $2.30

From Bulu Box: “With up to 83% less sugar, this bar delivers all of the body-shaping nutrition of the original but with amazingly low levels of sugar.”

There is also a code for 25% off and online order from DetourBar.com. The code is DET25. It expires the end of this month, but with the code you can get these as cheap as $1.04! That is a steal for any nutrition bar.

Green Tea Hawaii Packets – (4) Value Approx $5 total

From Bulu Box: “When stired into water, Green Tea Hawaii gives you the full benefits of 70 regular cups of green tea in 2 packets.”

pure matters for everyday health Vitamin D3 30 day capsule Value 12.95 but no other info given.

All in all I’m happy with my first Bulu Box. It got well over $10 worth of product and I’m genuinely interested in trying each one.

**Disclosure: I received the Bulu Box for review purposes. All opinions are my own.

Sample Box Showdown ~ Pets

  • Posted on July 23, 2012 at 8:40 AM

Yesterday I told you about beauty sample boxes, also known as subscription boxes. I could have rambled on and on, but I had to cut off somewhere. 🙂 In my new quest for the best sample/subscription boxes (I will eventually try them all.) I found some devoted to pets. So far there are only three…

BarkBox (I hope they come up with a cat version!)

$17 /6 mo, $21/3 mo or $29/mo. Free shipping. ~  Choose your dog’s size so they can customize it. Every month you will receive a box in the mail with four or more selected products and presents for your dog ~ anything from bones and treats to shampoos, leashes and innovative new gadgets! Also  included is a write-up on all of the products including the website address of each product, and in many cases, promotional codes for discounts. Cancel anytime. A portion of proceeds from each box will go to help doggies-in-need.

Pawalla $26/mo or $21/annually. Free shipping. ~ Fill out a pet profile so their pet nutritionist can  select the foods, treats, and supplements that are best for your pet. Each box contains six or more great new products including premium all-natural wet foods, delicious treats, healthy supplements, quality essentials and toys. Cancel anytime.

Best Friend Box  $45/mo. Free shipping. ~ Every month you get  four or more items. Their selections generally fall in the following categories: gourmet natural treats, posh toys, premium grooming supplies, and high-quality gear. You also get a card with information about each product, it’s manufacturer, and where to buy it. 10% of all profits are donated to cats and dogs in need.

These boxes are a bit *choke* more pricey than the beauty boxes. The only reason I’m considering subscribing to one is because I have five, yes FIVE, cats. They are spoiled! Treats & toys for them is expensive, let alone food and litter.

Would you fork out money for a pet box? Do you know of any other companies? If so, please comment and share with us.

Sample Box Showdown ~ Beauty Boxes

  • Posted on July 23, 2012 at 3:43 AM

I found a new way to get samples, but I have to pay for them. WHAT? I thought the idea of getting samples was to get freebies. Not always true. The idea of samples is to try before you buy. Try shampoo before you buy a bottle and end up hating it. Try EXPENSIVE cosmetics before you chop off an arm for the latest shade of lipstick. Plus, I like getting pretty boxes in the mail addressed to ME ME ME. 🙂

The first time I found out about sample beauty boxes was while reading the June issue of Allure magazine. I saw an advertisement to join Beauty Bar’s Sample Society. I joined right away!  July was my first month.  Soon after, I found out that there are sample boxes EVERYWHERE and for EVERYTHING*. Here are a few of the subscriptions I’ve come across. Since there are so many out there I’m diving my posts into categories. This one focuses on beauty. *most boxes include free shipping and you can cancel anytime.

Sample Society ~ is $15 a month. Includes a mini-Allure insert to give you the best application tips and advice from Allure editors, a yearlong subscription to Allure magazine, and $15 in product credit each and every month, for any product from any of the brands included in the box! Some of the brands they feature are Murad, Jane Iredale, Stila, Fekkai, Dermalogica and many more. If you absolutely love your samples you can buy full-sized product directly from the website.

GLOSSYBOX ~  Originated in the UK but earlier this year made their debut in the US. There are 3 subscription choices: Monthly for $21, 6 Months for $115, or Yearly for $220. Fill out a bespoke beauty profile then get 5 deluxe samples (some full-size) from brands like: Ahava, Burrberry, Zoya, First Aid Beauty and many more. You also get a “Glossy” mag. OH and simply refer a friend or write a review and you are rewarded with GLOSSYDOTS. Collect enough and receive your free GLOSSYBOX! I *blush* signed up for this box too and as soon as I get it, I’ll show you. 🙂

Beauty Army ~ Complete a beauty profile then you get choose 6 samples. Subscriptions are $12/month. or $132.00/year.  If you like being surprised, you can let them choose your samples for you. Brands include: Weleda, LaRocca, Joica, Indie Lee, and more. Like other boxes, if you love what you try, you can get the full-sized version on the website. This box is next on my wish list. Wait, who am I kidding? By months’ end I’m sure this will be on it’s way to my house!

BirchBox ~ Complete a profile. $10/month. There are typically 4-5 samples. You also get The Magazine full of tips and advice. Luxe samples from brands include NARS, Stila, Keihl’s, Smashbox and more. Refer a friend, earn 50 points. For every 100 points, get $10 in the Birchbox Shop. They also offer full-sized products on their site.

Julep Maven ~ Julep is a hand, nail and foot care brand with four boutique nail parlors in the Seattle area. This box is a little different. After taking your Julep Maven Style Quiz you’ll get over $40 worth of never-before-released polishes, cutting edge treatments and cult favorites, including at least two seasonal and style-specific nail colors. So basically it’s more than a sample box. I just LOVE nail polish though so I had to share. Subscription is 19.99 and they also offer a referral program. YAY!

BeautyBox5 ~ Subscriptions are $12/mo, $30/quarter or $100 yearly. Complete their beauty profile. Get 4 – 5 deluxe samples of a variety of makeup, skin care, fragrances and everything in between. Brands include: LA Fresh, Weleda, Everyday Fresh, Blum and more. Full-size products are available on their website. Referral program gives you a free box for every 5 friends you get to sign up. (do it! :-P)

There are several more sample boxes available but I’m afraid if I dig in and learn more about them they’ll also find their way into my mail box. For now I’ll close. Next post will feature pet boxes.
