Birchbox ~ August 2012

So I’m starting to get addicted to this subscription box craze. While I vacation I got my first BirchBox. Prior to signing up I’d read pros and cons of this subscription.  I decided to give it a go anyway and like my other scripts there is a 3 strike rule. This month’s box is meh, but not strike worthy.

 

There seem to be monthly themes to these boxes. This month is “Beauty School”. I got a little booklet telling me about all of my products, how to use them and what a full-sized product would cost.

From L to R ~ Juicy Couture’s Viva la Juicy La Fleur. Retail $70

A tiny lip gloss from Jouer. TOTALLY not my color. I don’t do pinks. This will go in a prize bag for sure. Retail $20

A Schick Hydro Silk razor with coupons. I love this razor, I currently use it. Retail not listed, but as a couponer I rarely pay more that $2 for razors. 🙂

Apothederm Stretch Mark Cream. I can’t wait to see if this works. Retail value is $89.95!

Last goodie is a sample of SHU UEMURA Art of Hair Illuminating Shampoo & Treatment. Shampoo retails for $48 and the treatment goes for $58

Beauty Bar Sample Society ~ August 2012

August is my second Sample Society box.It’s way more impressive that my first box. The first thing that caught my eye was the nail polish. It’s a full sized Deborah Lippmann nail color! This color is called Private Dancer. (Purple!!!) This bottle retails for $18. Our box only cost $15. This has more than paid for our boxes this month IMO.

Next is Elementral Herbology ~ It’s a cool & clear facial cleanser. It’s supposed to stimulate the skin’s metabolism revealing a glowing completion along with other things. This.8oz sample is worth about $18 US.

Phytonectar oil sample ~ This is a Pre-Shampoo Oil Treatment which is supposed to penetrate each strand of hair, and bring damaged, dehydrated hair back to life. At .33 oz this has a sample value of $5.82

Jane Iredale Longest Lash mascara in “Black Ice” ~ This was in a squeeze tube but that is not just the sample size- the full size is also packaged this way. This .1oz Sample is worth $7.86

Acorna Cranberry toner ~ Provides anti aging benefits while it cleanses your skin and protects against free radical damage. This 1oz sample is worth $9.61 (Can’t wait to try this!)

Covergirl & Olay BzzCampaign! UPDATE WITH REVIEW

Hello, this is BzzAgent MizCouponista reporting for duty. 🙂 Once again I’m blessed to have been chosen to participate in a BzzCampaign. This time I get to play with make-up. I was sent a full-sized bottle of Covergirl & Olay Tone Rehab 2-in-one Foundation AND Covergirl & Olay Pressed Powder! Did I mention it was FREE. uh huh! Wait, I also got 20 coupons. Within the next few days I’m going to stop my usual make-up routine and try this stuff out. I’ll let you know how it goes.

UPDATE: loved it. It blended so well nobody could tell I was wearing it!

On the flip-side, it made me break out on my T-Zone. I tried just using the foundation, same thing happened. Now wanting to give up I just used the powder alone. The coverage wasn’t as good. I would still recommend it to others. Just not to those who have senistiv skin.

Using Twitter to Find Giveaways

If you are a serious sweepstakes/giveaway hunter like I am here is another way to find *hot* giveaways for stuff YOU want: TWITTER!

I’m still new to using Twitter to it’s fullest potential. I’ve had my account for over a year and I barely surpassed 1000 tweets recently. I don’t know that I ever will master it. I’m willing to try though. Now that I know what it can truly get me, I say BRING IT!  First of all, just like couponing and  sample hunting, create a Twitter account just for giveaways. Most if not all require that you re-tweet to enter. This will save your friends from being bombarded with “Contest Tweets” OK now let’s get started!

Use Twitter Search 

  • Think about what you need/want.
  • Search Twitter by item type or brand. Example: ”Clothing giveaway” or “Sephora giveaway.”
  • Scroll through the tweets and click on the hyperlinks of the giveaways that interest you.
  • Each blog is different. Make sure you follow the directions exactly or you’ll forfeit the entry.
  • Usually find a “Tweet” button on the blog giveaway post to complete your Tweet.
  • Go to your Twitter home page.
  • Click on your latest Tweet to see “details.”
  • When you click on “details” look for a URL unique to that Tweet.
  • Copy the URL and go back to the blog giveaway page and paste the URL to finish your Tweet entry.
  • Use Twitter to re-Tweet.

Follow Up

  • Most blogs allow one Tweet entry per day. The more you are able to enter, the higher your chances of winning.
  • To see previous entries, go to your Twitter home page. Click on Tweets.
  • Click on hyperlinks of the previous day’s entries and you can reenter from the blog’s giveaway post again.

Winning

  • Most blogs will send an e-mail and allow 48 hours for a reply with a name and address. I have found these contests are legitimate. They are new products sent from a company (not a blog) or from a contracted marketing firm. Remember, make sure you respond to contest entries that you’ve sought out and entered.
  • When the item arrives, send a quick reply to the blogger. If the prize fails to arrive for six weeks, contact the blogger who has direct contact with the company.

Obviously, the more time you devote to this, the more often you will win. It’s been slow for me at first, but I’m beginning   to receive 1-2 FREE  items a week.  As I put more time into it, I’m sure my rewards will grow greatly.

Walgreens NEW Balance Reward Program ~ Sign Up NOW!

Walgreens is set to launch a new reward program this month. It is referred to as  “Balance Rewards”. This will NOT replace Register Rewards!

Customers will now have a card similar to CVS.  Points are earned for purchases. They will not expire for up to 3 years, but you must shop Walgreens at least once every 6 months to stay active and keep your points.

Enrollment is online from Sept. 2-15th or in-store beginning Sept. 16th.  The new program starts Sept. 16th. If you sign up online before the 16th you are entered for a chance at 10 million points! Register HERE

What is Balance Rewards?

Balance Rewards is a comprehensive loyalty program that offers easy enrollment, instant points and endless as well as ways to get, stay and live well at Walgreens.
